Society supports new IHR Partnership Seminar

Spaces of Sickness and Wellbeing: Histories of Art, Architecture and Experience

Building on the success of the SAHGB-IHR Architectural History Workshop launched in 2019, we are delighted to launch a second IHR seminar series topically responding to people’s desire to better understand their environment related to health.

In partnership with the Wellcome Trust - that holds one of the world’s great medical collections - and the Universities of Edinburgh, Bristol, and Birmingham, ‘Spaces of Sickness and Wellbeing: histories of art, architecture and experience’ is an occasional series, presenting opportunities for members to engage in discussions with scholars from across the world. Our Programmes Officer, Dr Ann-Marie Akehurst, and our former Trustee, Dr Alistair Fair, were the driving forces behind the new series.

6 seminar papers are planned for this year. The inaugural session, scheduled for March, will mark the anniversary of the UK’s first national coronavirus lockdown, by bringing together art and architectural historians to discuss Epidemics of Fear and the history of Medicine.  Keep an eye out for further announcements soon.
